Music is an integral part of human life. We sing from the first days of our infancy, though some might not call it 'proper singing'. There are different layers of song, represented in the image above, but we all have the ability (the gift) in our souls to express ourself in song and so at Wellspring song and music plays a significant role in our life and worship together. Songs (it is generally accepted) 'reach the parts that the spoken word cannot reach'. They speak to us in ways deeper than prose - and touch our inmost being.
We are moving towards a use of a wider variety of music and songs - and recorded music too. All can play their part in our worship and in helping us to connect with God.
Our sources of music will include Taize, The Iona Comunity, The Northumbria Community, modern worshiop songs, world-music (songs from other continents).
We have to understand (and share) this insight - that we are connected to the whole of humanity by our faith - as well as by the internet. Although Wirksworth is not an urban sprawl or a multi-cultural town we feel the need to engage with issues far beyond our county. Using the music of other peoples helps us to see where God is working and enhances our appreciation of the nature of an inter-connected planet.
We will be exploring too the possibilities of using instruments more, to supplement the keyboard elements which have existed for a long time.
