CROSSWAYS PLAYERS is a group formed in 2011, when the idea of churches coming together in Wirksworth was first mooted. It was the desire to do things together that inspired the vision and since then we have done just that - members from the old Methodist and Baptist congregations (now combined as Wellspring) plus folk from the URC church in the town and now with the added delight of others from Derby joining too. We are a real mixture of older and younger, of local and further away, of experience and enthusiasm.
Each year Crossways marks Christmas by a special presentation, sometimes innovative and other times traditional and/or meditative - but all in the search for the real meaning of a 'Presence'.
And each April we put on a classic show. So far we've done :
2012 - Guys and Gals
2013 - Marmalade lives!
2014 - Studio 5
2015 - Crossways in Chaos
2016 - Mr Shakespeare!
2017 - No chance!
2018 - Otherwise Engaged :
2019 - The circus
Next Show dates - Our April 2020 show has had to be cancelled/postponed (for obvious reasons).
Where does it all happen?
Amazingly the upper worship space in Wellspring has proved itself to be immensely adaptable, with a little persuasion. To date it has served as a space for talks and films, for presentations and concerts.
But for Crossways it has become a railway carriage, a grand country house, the Globe theatre, a TV studio, a Mission hall, a prison and a dance club, to name but a few.
The only bar to to creativity is the limits of our imagination.
