‘Coming and going’
As we gather let us reflect upon these words from Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am GOD
Be still and know that I AM
Be still and KNOW
Be STILL
BE

Song: Be still and know that I am God (MP 48)

Prayer
In the stillness we acknowledge Your presence Almighty God
We dare to say we come to You,
but You are already here.
Waiting.
We dare to say we know something of You,
but You know us intimately.
The One who called us to Be.
So we come in adoration,
we come in penitence,
we come expecting to meet with You
and be changed.
Our Father in heaven:
May your holy name be honoured;
may your Kingdom come;
may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need.
Forgive us the wrongs we have done,
as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us.
Do not bring us to hard testing,
but keep us safe from the Evil One.
[Matthew 6:9-13 - GNT]

A personal prayer
At Capernaum the crowds brought those possessed by demons.
Let us pause and consider what possesses us…
perhaps the way our belongings can possess us.
Imagine tossing some away.
Start with one. Envisage bringing this item to Jesus.
Ask him to help us to cast aside this encumbrance on our spiritual growth.
It's not something that is necessarily bad for us,
just unnecessary.
It clutters us. It takes us over.
We have to spend far too much time
servicing it, protecting it, justifying its use.
We end up serving it rather than it serving us.
Picture it, then mentally place it at the Cross.
Turn your back on it and walk away.
Then offer a prayer:
Put me to what you will. I freely and wholeheartedly yield
all things.
But of course, our particular demon
might not be a poss ession but an ob session.
Like a guilty secret. Or an addiction.
The same thing applies.
We are captured by it.
Imagine bringing this to Jesus. What does he say?
Try casting aside that which has clung so closely
that it feels second nature to you,
yet is an encumbrance on your spiritual growth.
It's not something that is necessarily bad for us,
just unnecessary.
It clutters us. It takes us over.
We have to spend far too much time
servicing it, protecting it, justifying it to ourselves.
We end up serving it rather than it serving us.
Picture it, then mentally place it at the Cross.
Turn your back on it and walk away.
Then offer a prayer:
Put me to what you will. I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal.

Prayer for others
Now consider the world around us.
Let us pause and consider what and whom we might bring before Jesus…
The global pandemic:
All those suffering or bereaved
Medical professionals facing burn out
Vaccine supply and administration…
Come among us Lord Jesus
People in protest:
Clamouring to make their voices heard
Seeking change
Wanting equality
Hoping for a better future
for all lives and all life…
Come among us Lord Jesus
Those close to us:
Families and friends
Our community of Wirksworth
The churches and our fellowship of Wellspring
Our future.
Come among us Lord Jesus, we pray.
Amen

Blessing
Go with us, Lord
into this week.
Help us to remain focused upon you,
and to make your priorities our own,
everywhere we go.
